AHUPUAʻA

Ahupuaʻa is a Hawaiian term for a large traditional socioeconomic, geologic, and climatic subdivision of land. An ahupuaʻa extends from the mountains to the sea and generally includes one or more complete watersheds and marine resources.

Coordinated by Dancers Unlimited’s cultural advisor, Kumu ‘Auli’i Aweau, the 3-day retreat features hands-on learning activities with Hawaiian cultural practitioners, aloha ʻāina / land stewardship, Hula / Oli and healing sessions.

The focus on AHUPUAʻA will address the sustainability issues that affect all Hawaiian islands, which has led to disasters such as the wildfires in Lāhainā and Kula.

We will learn about the interconnectedness of the ʻāina (land), Kanaka / Kamaʻāina and malihini (visitors), and explore sustainable ways for a collective future rooted in indigenous practices. Our vision is to heal generational and personal trauma through healing our relationship with the space around us.
