Linda Kuo (Co-Founder / Director / Choreographer) co-founded DU in 2009.  She has a B.A in Economics and Communications from Boston College, where she was on the school’s winning collegiate advertising team and dance groups.  In college, Linda interned at The Wang Theatre and Asian Task Force Against Domestic Violence, assisting in fundraising, PR, and programming.  After college, she worked as an account executive and assistant buyer.  While training as an Intern at Broadway Dance Center, Linda worked extensively in the Marketing department and with Pulse On Tour.  Her experience in marketing and business has served as a strong foundation for Dancers Unlimited over the years.

As a choreographer, Linda’s work has been featured on international stages including Shanghai World Expo, Dance 2XS Urbanite Beijing, The Contemporary Museum of Honolulu, Honolulu Academy of Arts, Hawaii State Art Museum, Ailey Citigroup Theater, Jazz Choreography Festival NYC, Sybarite: Love is Love, Time Square Open House Festival, NYC 10, Triskelion Arts Center, Mark Morris Dance Center’s, New York City Center Studios, Dance Wave, Salvatore LaRussa Theatre, Green Space, and Dixon Place.  She has also created commercial work for clients such as ZTV China, Me & City, and Dr. Dre Beats (Shanghai), The Modern Honolulu, Salt Liko, Yelp Hawaii, Honolulu Narcissus Pageant and Miss Latina Hawaii.

Linda’s style combines the many dance forms that she has studied: Ballet, Jazz, Modern, Hip Hop, House, Voguing, Waacking, West African, Salsa, Hustle, Afro Brazilian and the Hula. She studied as an intern for a year at Broadway Dance Center when she first moved to NYC from Hawaii in 2005, prior to performing on stages through Asia, Hawaii and NYC. In 2009, she was introduced to New York’s underground dance scene and instantly discovered a family that is all about raw and expressive dance connection.  Currently, Linda is mentored by House dance pioneer, Sekou Heru and has recently began studying Capoeira.

As a dance educator, Linda has taught Hip Hop, House, and Contemporary at studios and schools in/around NYC, Connecticut, Boston, Hawaii, Shanghai, and Taiwan. In 2014, she taught Hip Hop workshops for an US Embassy cultural program in Shanghai. In 2016, she was the featured Contemporary Teacher during NYC Dance Week and worked with its Dancers For A Day youth scholarship program.  Most recently she taught Contemporary and House dance classes at Mark Morris Dance Center, Bard College, and Castle High School.  Linda enjoys working with youths and has been a guest speaker at University of Hawaii, Sacred Heart Academy (Honolulu), and Jacqueline Onassis High School (NYC).

Linda is constantly studying and researching dance as a social tool of transformation and advancement.  She is a proud alumnus of Urban Bush Women’s Summer Leadership Institute (2017) and 92nd Y’s Dance Education Laboratory (2018).
